The accumulation of heavy metals ions by Chlorobium limicola IMB K-8 cells and their cytomorphological changes under the influence of cadmium sulfate

The cells of green sulfur bacteria Chlorobium limicola IMB K-8 can accumulation Ñu2+, Pb2+ and Ñd2+. The accumulation of heavy metals depends on their concentration in the environment. The cytomorphological changes in the phototrophic green sulfur bacteria C. limicola IMB K-8 under the influence of different cadmium sulfate concentrations are investigated. It is shown that the adddition of 1.5–2.0 mM CdSO4 cause changes in the structure of cytoplasmic membrane and it is detachment from the cell wall. The cytoplasm under these conditions was consolidated. Åletronically dense substances were accumulated. Increasing of cadmium salt concentration to 2.5 mM caused C. limicola IMB K-8 chain-like cell groups disintegration.
