Photographic indication of chlorophyll in the leaves of Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud in chronic radiation exposure conditions

The research of chlorophyll and radionuclides content in common reed leaves were performed. Leaf samples were collected at the Chernobyl exclusion zone. In addition to the existing methods of chlorophyll content measurement in plants, a method of its photographic indication was developed. The method is based on scanning and analyzing in digital images of red, green and blue colors reflected from the leaves. Research has established that the chlorophyll metabolism violation in the common reed leaves is of the incorporated 90Sr and 137Cs radiation dose effect. At the same time, 90Sr – inhibits, but 137Cs, within the studied dose, stimulates the production of chlorophyll in the beginning of the growing season than violate the development of plants.
