We give earlier unpublished original data on results of bat survey in underground shelters in regions of Ukraine, where natural caves and mines are absent or poorly represented. The list included 171 underground units in 19 administrative regions (oblasts) of Ukraine: cellars and unheated basements, underground drainage galleries, fortification objects, mines, monastery caves, tunnels, artificial underground cavities caves of unknown purpose, etc. Most of the objects were examined, for bat survey, for the first time. Bats were recorded in 69 underground sites. The found species were: Myotis bechsteinii, M. myotis, M. daubentonii, M. dasycneme, M. mystacinus sensu lato / M. brandtii, M. nattereri, Barbastella barbastellus, Plecotus auritus, P. austriacus, Eptesicus serotinus. We also consider in details the first record of Plecotus austriacus in Poltava oblast; it outstood from previously known for at least 240 km. Based on the new results as well as on previously published data we determined six key underground sites: one, for Dn³propetrovsk and Poltava oblasts; two, for Rivne and Zhytomyr oblasts. We also confirmed the overall significance of two previously identified underground key sites, in Kyiv and Kharkiv oblasts. All the sites require implementation of measures for bat protection and conservation.
